Basketball, streetball et football

Basketball; streetball

Basketball is a team sport. It is primarily an indoor sport, played in a relatively small playing area, called the court. The speed and grace of the game, combined with the close proximity of the spectators to the action, make basketball an exciting spectator sport. There are some variations of basketball played in informal settings. In street (also known as 'pickup' or 'streetball') games, an arbitrary number of points by one team is set as the game's end point. Free throws are not used, and fouls are called, by the fouled player, only when a violation is flagrant or prevents a score. Fouls are almost always called by the player with the ball; off-ball fouls or fouls called by the defense are frowned upon unless the foul committed is especially egregious.

Streetball is an urban form of basketball, played in playgrounds and imitated in gymnasiums across the world.

Basketball; streetball
While the rules of Streetball are essentially/theoretically the same as normal basketball, Streetball places a higher emphasis on one-on-one and three-on-three matchups. Often the attacker will perform numerous flashy moves while attempting to drive to the basket, including crossovers, jab steps, and other fake-out tricks. Streetball often features spectacular dunks and alley-oops, impressive ball handling, and trash talking. Certain rule violations in traditional basketball, carrying for example, simply do not need to apply in Streetball. Style is often the determining factor in what is and is not legal in a Streetball game - if it looks good, it's not against the rules. In this sense, Streetball is as much performance art as it is an athletic contest. Here in Zaton, basketball and streetball can be played on courts of Hangar (Dobri dolac bay) and Fire-station court.

Five-a-side football

Five-a-side football or indoor soccer is a variation of football in which each teams fields five players rather than the usual eleven. Other changes compared with football proper include playing on a smaller pitch, with smaller goals, and a reduced time duration. Games are often played indoors.

Five-a-side football
Five-a-side is commonly played informally, and the rules are therefore flexible and are sometimes decided immediately before play begins. Common rules are typically adopted for competitive or semi-formal five-a-side leagues or tournaments.

The tradition of five-a-side football, one of the most popular games here in Dalmatia, dates from the first half of the last century. It has been played in Zaton and surrounding fields, but more actively after the sports field Hangar (1979) was finished. Most common time to play is during summer months. It's played almost every day, disregarding the weather.
