The name of ZATON first time mentions in year 1322. Archeologists claim that along these hillocks and coves were running deer and wild horses, so even and rhinoceroses. Their petrified remains have been found in caves of Tradanj and Sarina draga. Even remains of human have been found, all there from the Stone Age. Among prehistoric and antique graves on the locality of Mrdakovica has been discovered one Old Croatian tomb which has been partly indented in the cliff. This grave, on the basis of grave supplements (two ceramic pots and one iron knife) can generally date from VIII century.
Well-known is the tower of Nikola Tavilic, who was situated in Zaton port, near the sea. When the dredging machine, before the 1st. W. War, worked in the sea, during the construction of boardwalk, there has been taken out a lot of the white stone. People say that there have been some inscriptions. There is the oral tradition that there has been the tiny little island, called the "Old monastery", which sunk. From the oral tradition there are stories how inhabitants, when they were building their houses, from the pile of stones collected carved pieces of stone and used them for the building.
Around 1910 came the dredging machine and dig out the small peninsula with the left pile of stone and everything drove away below the hill Zvizda, on the depth around the 30 m. When in 1979, on the area in front of the previous Post Office in Zaton was needed to build the part of coastal wall (boardwalk), there has been taken a large stone block out of the sea, partly treated. This stone could be FOUNDATION STONE of TAVELIC TOWER. On him has been set the figure of Mediterranean monk seals, which was the trademark of Mediterranean games in 1979 (contest in the rowing and kayak).
