For the church of St. Juraj in Zatonu, some say that is "was committed in 1533" (three years before the finish of Sibenik cathedral). Don Ive Baresa - chronicler of Zaton, and for many years the parish priest, in his PARISH CHRONICLE of ZATON (1996) wrote on the p. of 9 that in 1533 was founded the parish of St. Juraj and guild of St. Luka in Zaton, and that the Church of St. Juraj has been built in 1666.
Zaton has obtained his constant parish priest in 1701. It has been Don Mate Kulas, born in Zaton. He has served for 22 years. From these years, Stosic mentions also the priest Ivan Jerkovic, born also in Zaton, on the service in Tribunj. Stosic took notes of serving 32 parish priests in Zaton, their names and birth-places. The parish priest Don Ive Baresa, born in Vodice, has been the longest. He has been the "servant of the servant of the God” for full 54 years, in very bad times from 1938 to 1993.
When in 1987, in the old church St. Juraj was removed the roof picture on linen, intending to restore, it has been discovered that below her was older picture, made on the dry plaster during construction of the church. It represents the St. Juraj how he kills the dragon. Historians of art give up to it a larger artistic value, because it has been made in some old style of naive art. The people of Zaton started to build the church of St. Rok in 1928 in the neo-gothic style, along with the project of eng. Ivan Svalina from Ljubljana.
It shouldn’t be forgotten that it was the big object, with hundreds of cubic meters of concrete, built without any mechanization (mixers for the concrete or cranes). Most of the work was during the summer, when was less of the field work. It has been in time of large crises around the world, so poor men and tired women drained their last drops of energy in that building. It has been the true "living church". In 1962, don Ive continued the work and till 1967 it has been done much of the work, so he has been able to maintain the first mass on the church chorus on the 18th of June 1967.
The parish council with the new parish priest Don Ante Ivas in 1993 has decided to make all necessary action to end the construction of the church. The work has started on 24th of April 1995, and has been finished on 15th of August 1995. On the 16th of August 1995, the holiday of holy Roko has been celebrated ceremonially in the presence of entire Zaton, many guests, headed by the Sibenik bishop dr. Srecko Badurina.
